August is done. Here are your Autumn Action Items.

I knew August would be a busy month—there was Fringe, then Double D&D, then The Other Picture Show, along with a smattering of stilt gigs and private events. What I didn’t realize was how fulfilling each part of that bonkers schedule would be. MN Fringe was not just an opportunity to play with friends and produce a sweet little show that highlighted how art, movement, and being in our bodies can help resolve differences, even when we’re passionate about them. It was also an opportunity to make new friends, experience new art, and foment new ideas. Double D&D was a blast, cementing my confidence in my improv chops and raising a good chunk of change to help Smitten Kitten celebrate their hard work for mutual aid. The sluts will save us. The Other Picture Show was more meaningful to me than I imagined, trying out an unusual new routine that got tears and loud singing from the audience and reminding me of my dance and performance roots in Texas. And I loved working again with The Other Jeannie Retelle and her crew—here’s to many more. Somewhere in there I also found the time to create two costumes: a thrift store version of ChiChi Rodriguez’s iconic lime-and-hot-pink dress, and a brand new dirndl (in tricolor, natch) that I hope will see plenty of bookings in the years to come.

In short, your girl Cleo works hard. I’ll still be at it in the fall, and now I’m going to request a little work from you.

  1. Sponsor Hijinks Stilts to be part of Festival de las calaveras. Just drop a lil skull in the comment box and I’ll add it to the kitty.

  2. Register for Wednesday evening dance fitness classes with me! Zumba from 5:45-6:45, Oula from 7 to 8, starting Oct 7.

  3. Support Festival de las calaveras as they deliver on their commitments to culture, community, and art despite a funding shortfall.
